The City of Peoria selected TERRA to perform Phase I and Phase II engineering for the reconstruction of Western Avenue from Adams Street to Lincoln Avenue. Local and federal funds will be used for the construction of this facility. The proposed improvements convert the existing four-lane roadway section into a three-lane section with new bicycle lanes on either side. The proposed road diet will generate space within the existing right-of-way for the new bicycle lanes and policy sidewalks. The City’s green infrastructure goals will be accommodated by a new drainage system consisting of permeable pavers, an underground granular storage system, dry wells and an overflow storm sewer.
Other improvements include:
Complete roadway reconstruction including alternative pavement designs pavement, aggregate base, curb and gutter, residential and commercial entrances
ADA-compliant sidewalks and curb ramps
On-street bicycle lanes on permeable pavers for drainage infiltration with dry wells, and new storm sewer
Ornamental lighting and roadway landscaping
Intersection improvements including improved geometrics and lane configurations, new traffic signal equipment with video vehicle detection and video communication
